MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT - 20090611
For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat. I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink,* / was a stranger, and ye took me in. (Matthew 23:35)
Feed the Hungry Ministry has been in existence for 24 years at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. In the beginning WHCC fed approximately 75 people MWF the first week of the month with an allowance of $35/day. The week was increased to 4 days a week. Presently we feed M ? F, with an allowance of $125/day. At present we are feeding about 500 people. This number can increase during the summer months when school is out.
Our volunteers feel the need to fulfill this ministry. Providing this ministry gives them the opportunity to understand and experience God’s compassionate heart for the poor and the needy. There are many ways to get involved with this ministry and doing God’s work.
We encourage members to volunteer; the rewards are heavenly. Volunteers who help have the satisfaction of knowing that their time and effort are aiding the cause of alleviating hunger. They know that through God’s work and His help someone wasn’t hungry for a little while. In many cases, this may be the only meal the hungry receive that day. WHCC furnishes the funds to purchase the necessary food items. Meals are cooked and served at St. John’s by the volunteers of that day.
The hours of operation are from 9:30arn ? 12:30pm WHCC is grateful for the loving ladies who began this ministry and have served so faithfully: Lena VanBuren, Taeko Ragain, Dotty White, Helen Stafford, Teddy Worthington, Kathy Radtke, Terri Riocitelli, Jane Woodruff and Jodie Pauley.
Western Hills Christian Church continues serving meals to those who are in need of both physical and spiritual needs the first full week of the month. It is our hope that you will feel God’s calling for this ministry.
Today’s volunteers are: Monday: Richard Crawford, Chris Stallworth, Marilyn Janosko and Carol Hubbard Tuesday: Tammy Keifer, Mary Wilson, Sharon Marsh Wednesday: Becky LaRue, Bill Wright, Richard Crawford Thursday: Sally Jones, G.W. During the summer months, the teens volunteer their time at St. John’s. We deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work to the volunteers who continue to provide this service for the needy.
