Text: Acts 18:1-4,18-19,24-28; Colossians 3:16; 1st Thessalonians 5:10-11; Hebrews 10:24-25

I.  Our lives should not be about investing in others, not simply making a living. (See Acts 18:1-4)

  1. Their ability to leave their roots and move to new places.
  2. They ran a tent making business together.
  3. They host a small group in their home.
  4. Paul taught them and they are willing to teach others.
  5. They are willing to go wherever God leads them. (Acts 18:18-21)

II.  We need each other to grow in Christ.

Acts 18:18-21
18 Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchrea because of a vow he had taken. 19 They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined. 21 But as he left, he promised, “I will come back if it is God’s will.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

III.  We need each other to complete our mission.

See: Hebrews 10:24-25; Colossians 3:16; 1st Thessalonians 5:10-11

Application:
We need to invest in other.
We need each other to grow in Christ.
We need each other in order to complete our mission.
How does this work out in our lives?

DISCOVERY CLASSES

At Western Hills Christian Church we offer a series of Discovery Classes designed to help you discover your purpose and role here at the church. The classes will take you through basic membership here at WHCC, through the discovery of your ministry possibilities here at the church and in the community.

The classes are offered periodically as needed and are usually held on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. A meal is provided as well as child care. It has been my experience that the classes usually end before 8 p.m. There are four classes in the series and it is important that they are taken in order. Below is a description of each class.

Discovery 101: Discovering Church Membership
This class deals with the purpose of WHCC, the structure of WHCC and the beliefs of the church. It also discusses the requirements for church membership.

Discovery 201: Discovering Spiritual Maturity
This class helps you discover the spiritual disciplines needed to grow and mature as a Christian. It covers such topic as: Getting a grasp on your Bible; the habit of a daily time with God; the habit of prayer; the habit of tithing; the habit of fellowship and how to maintain good habits.

Discovery 301: Discovering My Ministry
This class will help you discover your S.H.A.P.E. This is nothing more than your unique ability to minister in the body of Christ. You will develop a profile of your spiritual gifts and hopefully come away from the class with a desire to serve God.

Discovery 401: Discovering My Life Mission
This class helps us discover where God is going to use me as His voice in the community. You will learn to develop your personal testimony and you will learn how to share the Gospel message with others. You will also learn how to relate to others on a spiritual level. The class will challenge you to be a fisher of men and women.

If you are interested in learning more about WHCC or becoming a part of the church please sign up for Class 101 in the foyer. If you have recently joined the church and have not taken Class 101 I would encourage you to sign up. If you have already taken 101 or another class and need to continue in the series, please sign up in the foyer.

SEE YA SUNDAY-Volume XLIV, Issue 20,September 25,2008

Over the next six weeks, the entire church will be immersed in a study titled, “Life on Loan”.  During this study everyone, including the children and teens, will have the opportunity to reflect and act upon the gifts that God has given us to use in His service.  Whether we like it or not, our life and everything that we have is really on loan to us from God.

There will be a couple of ways for you to enjoy this series.  First, the church is offering several different small group opportunities in which you can study and share together.  I encourage everyone to participate in this Bible study. Not only will you learn about yourself, you will also get to know many other people as well.

The small group study will cover a variety of topics designed to help you learn that you are important to God and the work that He gives you to do is important to His kingdom.  That is why you will learn how to merge your passions with God’s purposes, pay attention at the intersections in life that you have with other people, share your story with others, and keep focused on eternity.

The second way you will be able to learn is each Sunday, I will preach a sermon that is related to the topic you will be studying in your small group.  The material will be different from Home Bible Fellowship study, but similar in thought.  Hopefully it will provide you with a different perspective.

It is so important that we begin seeing our life as being on loan from God and not ours.  When we begin to define ourselves by what God is able to do through us and not by what we have accumulated, it gives life a whole new purpose.

I hope you will be willing to tune in for this great series. It might change your life forever.

Dave
